Baltimore Orioles Notes, Quotes 2009-09-04

--RHP Dennis Sarfate has struggled in his brief time back with the club, prompting manager Dave Trembley to say, "He doesn't look like the same guy as last year." Sarfate has allowed three runs and five hits in two-thirds of an inning in two appearances since Tuesday.

--LHP Alberto Castillo could use September to pitch his way into the club's 2010 plans. The Orioles would like another left-hander in the bullpen, and Castillo tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout in the Yankees series.

--RHP Jim Johnson entered with a one-run lead Wednesday but failed to record an out in the ninth inning, allowing five earned runs on three hits and two walks. Johnson has allowed seven earned runs on six hits in his last three outings, spanning two innings.

BY THE NUMBERS: 33 -- Consecutive team losses RHP Cal Meredith had appeared in, until the Orioles won 13-4 on Aug. 28, when he tossed the sixth inning.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Any kid who grew up in Maryland would feel that it was a great dream to play in an Orioles uniform." -- Former Orioles DH Harold Baines, a St. Michael's, Md., native who was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame on Aug. 29.
